“I used to sulk over the idea that my mother cannot afford to support my education while my sister is still studying. Our living condition is hard, and the extensive impact of Typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) remains a challenge to our family,” Mildred shared as she recounted her struggles in continuing her dreams.
“Looking back, it was really hard. I tried to apply to all government and non-profit organizations I know that offer a scholarship. I kept praying and seeking God’s help to fulfill my dream of finishing my studies,” Mildred said.
Not long after, Mildred, through the help of Pastor Mark who mentored her spiritually, managed to apply and pass as a Back-To-School scholar of Operation Blessing.
“To be honest, I was surprised to be accepted in the program. Unlike other aspiring scholars, I dealt with a few attitude problems with my teachers because of my strong personality,” Mildred recounted. “Thankfully, my BTS family offered guidance to me. Beyond the financial aid, they also provided emotional and spiritual support to us, scholars.”
Through hard work and perseverance, Mildred finally completed her bachelor’s degree in Accounting Technology at Eastern Visayas State University. God willing, she will pursue to enter a graduate school or law school to further her skills in public service.
“I wouldn’t be here if not for the donors. Thank you for supporting and inspiring us to give back to our community as well. I was only a dreamer then, but now I am an achiever because you supported my dream and help me get through all the financial troubles I was facing. Thank you very much!”
