OB fed thousands of families in storm-stricken Rizal

“We’ve been through every other typhoon, but we never saw anything like this,” Flordeliza Flores of Montalban, Rizal shared as she waited in line to pick up her meal in a vacant lot near her house. There, Operation Blessing is handing out free lunch to anyone in need.

Montalban, Rizal is one of the most affected areas when the immensely powerful Typhoon Ulysses crippled Luzon. Hard-hit areas experienced extensive flooding, trapping residents on the roof of their homes.

“We are having a hard time now because it was like starting all over again. The flood has ruined almost everything,” Flordeliza said. She is not alone. Thousands more had their homes, properties, and livelihoods damaged because of Typhoon Ulysses.

Joseph Manalang, a resident of Brgy. Burgos in Montalban, was also emotional as he recalls what happened. “As a father, it pains me to see my children suffer the loss of our home. We are not prepared, and we do not know until when we will be able to survive. The only thing we can do now is pray and trust God’s plans.”In addition to feeding people affected by typhoons, currently, OB also has a presence in other regions, providing food supplies to displaced families and individuals. It is also feeding many people who are out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Helping disaster-stricken families who are dealing with destroyed homes and properties secure access to food is one of the most important relief efforts now. Food donations can help, but for the most part, a cash donation will allow us to feed those who need it more safely and efficiently.
