Operation
Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inc. (OB) is a
non-profit humanitarian aid foundation that provides
short-term medical, disaster relief, feeding and
community development assistance to economically
disadvantaged people in the Philippines and Asia.
OB is committed to responding with appropriate resources
to people in dire need by mobilizing volunteer medical
teams, logistics and other trained emergency relief
personnel to handle the procurement, transportation
and distribution of food, clothing, medical and
other supplies. OB continues to enhance its capacity
to provide community assistance programs to serve
as many people as possible.
Structure
OB works with the appropriate government agencies,
such as the Department of Health and the Department
of Social Welfare and Development, and with non-government
organizations in the target localities. It is
duly registered with the Bureau of Internal Revenue
and the Department of Social Welfare and Development
as a donee institution.
Background
OB is the Asian counterpart of the US-based Operation
Blessing International. Since 1994, OB humanitarian
missions have expanded their reach from areas
all over the Philippines to other Asian countries
like China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan.
In 1996, OB officially became the humanitarian
arm of CBN Asia, Inc., which was founded by Gordon
Robertson, son of The Christian Broadcasting Network
Chairman and Founder M.G. "Pat" Robertson.
Programs
OB is committed to initiate a variety of strategic
national and Asia-wide programs, partnerships,
and special projects to relieve human suffering
by providing the basic necessities of life and
developing healthy, self-sustaining communities.
Operation
Blessing provides free healthcare services, medicines,
supplies and education to individuals and communities
that have little or no access to medical resources
or assistance. These services, extended by volunteer
healthcare professionals, are combined with warm,
compassionate care that has been the hallmark
of Operation Blessing outreaches.
Be
it a natural or man-made calamity, Operation Blessing
is quick to lend a helping hand. OB mobilizes
volunteers to distribute much-needed relief items
such as foodstuffs, clean drinking water, clothing,
and medicines in disaster-stricken areas. OB also
provides trauma counseling for disaster victims
as well as disaster management training for local
churches to equip them with the necessary knowledge
and skills for handling such emergencies.
- COMMUNITY/
FAMILY TRANSFORMATION
Operation
Blessing uses a holistic approach to achieve its
vision of transforming initially a family and
eventually an entire community from a life of
poverty and misery to one of self-sufficiency
and dignity.
BLESS-A-CHILD:
Addresses the health needs of malnourished pre-school
children through the provision of nutritionally
balanced meals, free education, and monthly health
care for one whole year.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL:
Offers education sponsorship for impoverished
children in the form of school fees, supplies
and uniforms.
LIVELIHOOD:
Financially needy individuals, especially parents
of children enrolled in the Bless-a-Child and
Back-to-School programs, are equipped with practical
training, tools and resources essential to attaining
economic self-sufficiency. It affirms the principle
of not only giving man fish but also teaching
him how to fish. Beneficiaries are also taught
and encouraged to save up through the Bayanihan
Banking Sytem.
In
many communities that Operation Blessing visits,
the availability of safe, clean water is a common
predicament and is a major cause of health and
sanitation problems for residents. OB meets this
need by drilling wells that provide fresh, potable
water.
Many
young children today are deprived of a home and
basic necessities, either due to extreme poverty
and/or the absence or early death of their parents.
Depending on the needs of the children in the
communities it serves, Operation Blessing develops
programs that impart love and instill hope among
the future generation. These include gift-giving,
summer school programs, and kids' camp.
- HOLIDAY
OF HOPE AND CHEERS
This
program focuses on sharing the message of hope
to the needy and hurting during the Christmas
and Lenten seasons. Over the years, Operation
Blessing has brought hope and cheer to orphans,
the elderly, special children, prison inmates,
indigent children, Muslim families, children of
missionaries, and dependents of soldiers from
the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
